Buddha with Eyes Downcast, 2001

Full description

Sandstone, steel; 60” x 48” x 108” (152 x 122 x 274 cm)

Buddha with Eyes Downcast

The source for this work is from a large fragment of a 7th century sculpture. It is carved to the same scale and from the same type of sandstone. The intention for not carving the face of Buddha is to turn the back of the head into the front of the piece in order to see in the same direction. Instead of gazing upon the face, one is faced upon looking.
