Travertine nocce marble, steel;
48 x 39 x 54”
Tantalus
The stone is elevated upon the base so that its opening is at the heights
of an average table. A plum seed is the form source, which refers to
sustenance. The kernel is missing from the seedcase, so that reaching
into the seedcase interior accommodates a human arm. This hole refers
to the natural seeds that have been accessed by animals or insects. The
hollow form refers to the cave or cave architecture.
The far wall of the interior space is beyond one’s reach. One
reaches into the unknown. The piece is about desire beyond reach.
